Bye Bye Billie-Jae

Boo hoo, Billie-Jae is leaving us. We will really miss her. Today we had a huge shared lunch to celebrate Billie-Jae's time in Room 6. We made an enormous card full of messages and beautiful words to describe this very special girl. Drury School is lucky to have you join them Billie and we are sorry to lose you. Keep in touch!

Week 10 Assembly Award Winners

We had an interesting morning in Room 6 completing the Maths Measurement Team Challenge. The children were in groups of four and they were given a metre ruler and asked to measure different lenghts around the classroom to the nearest metre. None of the team got all the answers right. But, Team 1 got the most answers right and they were finished way before the other teams. The greatest difference between Team 1 and the other teams was that they worked well together, communicating and co-operating. So, they all deserved a certificate. Well done to Jack, Melissa, Joseph and Cheyenne. Myah has been trying harder to get her work done on time and to a satisfactory standard without being distracted. Good stuff Myah.

Book Fair Parade

Room 6 had a lot of interesting characters turn up on Friday afternoon. We had Snow White, Rapanzel, Baa Baa Smart Sheep, Charlottte,a cowboy, skater boy, witch and many many more. We all went up to watch the book fair parade. Micaiah the amazing spider from Charlotte's Web was given first prize in our class by the judges. Super effort.

Pou Pou Artwork

This week is Maori Language Week. We have been learning our pepeha over the last couple of months. We have also been doing some corrugated card artwork inspired by pou pou that are found on the inside walls of te whare whakairo - the carved Maori meeting house at a marae. Pou pou are carvings in the upright slabs that form the solid framework. The carvings are representative of tupuna or ancestors. Have a look at the artworks we have completed so far.

Winning Science Fair Board

Today we went to the Science Fair and we found out that the judges awarded our science inquiry 1st prize in the year 0-2 science category section. We asked what would happen if we changed the amount of baking powder in our pikelets. This was important to know because we have done a lot of cooking in room six so it was of interest to us.
